The East County Lions cheer squads headed to UC Davis for the final cheer competition of the year, and were on a mission. All four levels, from Jr. Peewee to Midget cheer, placed first in the cheer competition, and took home the title in dance as well. The win enabled the Lions to top their own record: it was the first time in 18 years that all levels placed first in the final event.

East County Youth Football headed to Danville to face the San Ramon T Birds.

The Scouts played a hard-fought game highlighted by touchdown runs from Gaudi Campbell. The defense was led by Bryant Garcia, Jake Romeo, Giovanni Lorrea and Dante Lucido.

The Jr. Pee Wees played a thriller but lost to the T Birds in the end. The Lions led 7-0 most of the game, but the T birds punched in a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and went ahead on a two-point kick. Final score: T Birds 8, Lions 7.

The Pee Wee defense headed into Danville on a roll, having yielded only one touchdown scored all season. The T Birds, however, challenged the Lions all day, taking their first possession for a touchdown and stunning the Lions and the crowd. The Lions answered back with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Gregerson to Ryan Payne shadowed by Spencer Ortiz. The T Birds came back and eventually won the game 28-6.

The Jr. Midget squad pounced on the T Birds on touchdown runs from John Velasco and Walter Cruz. Featuring hard hitting by Austin Solari, Sam Hinn, Alec Espino, Michael Figuroa and Jesse Barker, the Lions dominated the line of scrimmage and won the game 39-6.

For the first time in 18 years, all four EC Lion levels are heading to the playoffs, which take place next week in San Leandro, and are primed to make it to the Turkey Bowl.
