Football
Tryouts
East County Youth Football belongs to
the Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference which governs the
amount of players a team may carry. As such, there must be
a minimum of 18 players and cannot be more than 35. Each
year many players are allowed to tryout for each level of play.
Every effort is made to keep 35 players on each level. Cuts are
final, and are at the discretion of the head coach of each team
who gets input from his coaching staff of each player that is to
be kept or cut. There are many factors that play into the
coaches decision. While athletic skills are of importance, credence
is also given to attitude, work ethic, and attention to
instruction.
While ECYF would like to allow each
player applicant the opportunity to play, the format of the
Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference does not allow it.
This may seem unfair at
first, but in any competitive event, whether it be sports,
business or other, competition is what drives quality.
ECYF has proven over and over again that this principle is sound
as it supplies all three local high schools (Liberty, Freedom
and Heritage) with an overwhelming majority of the skill level
players (see the
Former
Football Players page to more
information). Players have also gone to other local area
schools including Antioch, Deer Valley, and De La Salle.
